American actor Will Smith has apologised to American comedian Chris Rock after Oscars slap.

Taking to his social media pages on Tuesday, March 29, the 53-year-old actor asked for forgiveness saying his behaviour during the Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.

In his apology, Will Smith noted jokes about him are part of the job but was not willing to tolerate a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s medical condition.

“Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” wrote the actor.

Will noted that he was embarrassed of his actions. He also took the moment to apologise to the Academy, producers, and the show in general.

“I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us. I am a work in progress,” added Will.

Will Smith Slaps Chris Rock

The altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock happened when Rock took the stage to present the best documentary award and made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith being in a sequel to “G.I. Jane.”

 

The 53-year-old actress has been open about the fact that she has alopecia, which causes hair loss.

 

Her husband then ran on stage, slapping Rock and quickly returning to his seat.

 

“Keep my wife’s name out of your f****ng mouth!” Smith yelled.
