Former Uganda gospel musician Julie Birungi has opened up on why she left her mother country for Canada.
Speaking during an interview with Canada’s Got Talent, the mother of two opened up that she is gay which is an abomination in her country.

Julie who is the mother to the 2019 East Africa’s Got Talent (EAGT) winners Esther and Ezekiel Mutesasira revealed her sexuality during her kid’s audition with Canada’s Got Talent.
“I left Uganda because of my sexuality, being a gay woman in Uganda and married to a pastor, that’s an abomination,” she said.
The mother of two moved to Canada after divorcing her husband Pastor Steven Mutesasira for greener pastures.
Julie Birungi Finds Love
During the interview, her kids revealed that their mom has been their greatest support and also doubles up as their vocal coach. After years in Canada, Julie took to social media to celebrate her new life, and marriage to a fellow woman that shocked Ugandans.
Since then she has continued to share pictures with her new lover on the internet affirming once again her sexuality.
