Citizen radio journalist Fred Obachi Machokaa has been conferred with the Order of Grand Warrior Medal for his exemplary service in the media industry.

Machokaa who is well known as Uncle Fred shared the good news with his fans via his Facebook page on Wednesday, May 4.

The Order of Grand Warrior (OGW) is an award given to individuals in recognition of their exemplary service rendered to the country in different capacities.

The veteran journalist who is also nicknamed the blackest man in Africa has been in the game for over 40 years where he worked in various media houses.

In his gratitude post, the RogaRoga show host thanked God for life and health. He also took the moment to thank his mom, dad and wife Sophie for helping him become the man he is today.

“It’s FINALLY here, in recognition of 40+ years of exemplary service to the broadcasting industry! First, I wish to thank the Almighty God for life & health and….EVERYTHING that I am and have! Secondly, I want to thank my mom & dad for dropping me here, my lovely wife Sophie for taking over this baggage and my children and grandchildren for thinking that the baggage ain’t that heavy after all!” wrote Machokaa.

Machokaa also took a walk down memory lane to his early days at the Voice of Kenya (VoK) and Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) where his media career took off.

“From the corridors of VoK/Kbc (mama na baba) through some short stints with BBC, KTN and the “real deal” Royal Media Services (Citizen) not to mention the Advertising & PR World with McCann Erickson, D’Arcy MacManus, Peter Colmore Ltd, FM-35 Promotions etc. Thank you all for teaching me something,” added Fred Obachi Machokaa.

The veteran journalist also took the moment to thank his fans and haters and also his colleagues and bosses who have walked with him through his media journey.

“To my listeners in Kenya and the diaspora, lovers and haters, the diehard critics of my more than 20 different radio & TV shows over time, the Rhumba patients that I vaccinate weekly, THANK YOU for being there with me. Mr. Wachira Waruru, Fred Afune, Latifah Ngunjiri, Jeridah Andaye, Mamou Achimba, you and you and you, THIS IS YOURS. The beat goes on, let’s keep RogaRoga alive!” he added.
